Serpentyne - Angels of the Night album cover

Formed in London in 2010, SERPENTYNE has released their fifth full length album. This Symphonic Folk Metal band has been pushing their way to the top of the Folk Metal scene very gracefully yet forcefully. They're one of the fastest growing Folk Metal bands in the world at the moment. The band is comprised of Maggiebeth on Vocals, Lee on Guitars, Nigel on Bass and Vocals, John on Drums and Vocals and Vaughan on Bagpipes and vocals.

The album opens up with the song "Away from the World" which is absolutely stunning. In the beginning there is what I believe to be a bagpipe with distortion and it kinda blew my mind. It's followed up by the song "Angel of the Night" which I thoroughly enjoyed. It takes on a bit more of a dark sound which was very entertaining. There are even parts with a brass section which was a great addition. The only thing I have a problem with so far is I think that the Vocals could have been tuned down in the mixing. Her singing is really good, it's just too much at the forefront. Almost as if the rest of the band was an afterthought.

The next song up is "Bring on the Storm" which was a nice change of pace for the album. I really felt like this song showed what the band is capable of producing. I will also say that "Lady Macbeth" was a ton of fun to listen to. I wasn't prepared for them to whip out the "double double toil and trouble". That really made me smile when they started citing Macbeth. The song "Seven Signs" was absolutely phenomenal. I honestly think that it's my favourite song on the album by far. All in all I think this album was fantastic but needs a few things polished up. I think that the band has a very bright future ahead of them. If you are a fan of Folk Metal, go pick this up when you can for sure!
