Remembering Mirrors
September Code
When I feel lost, sometimes I know that no matter how deep the soul searching I would do I wouldn't find the answer that I am looking for, or myself to be exact. I assume that I am not the only one on earth that faced that issue and there are many others constantly contemplating on questions like "who am I" or "what am I doing here" or "what is my purpose". Such strong philosophical moments can take one knee deep into deep thinking, yet who knows if there will be an end to that. Thank god we have music to help out on the way. Through the new album of the Progressive Rock band from Greece of SEPTEMBER CODE, "Remembering Mirrors", what I mentioned above is almost the same process of wondering of what, where and how regarding the one's state of mind. If you were wishing for something with depth, there you have it and it doesn't need to be a command.
SEPTEMBER CODE's music is all about twists and turns without a dull moment in between. Their direction is in the Rock area, from what sounded as Alternative Rock to both modern and vintage Progressive Rock. It was like listening to PINK FLOYD and a lighter version of KORN and FAITH NO MORE, especially when it comes to the songs' arrangements. The awkward moments filled with effects and diverse passages turned out to be some of great markers of the album. Nonetheless, some of the album's outputs, which beyond the fact that the music is so artistic and at times extremely challenging, the preached words felt as those were carved on a skin.
Through the mesmerizing sections of "XE Cute 2", it felt like as if I was reliving the story of Cane and Able. Something wicked has started since the brother kill brother incident and it has been going on and on right through our ordinary lives. The sensual singing of Dim Koskinas told the whole story. What was more interesting is the constructive nature of the title, an idea that I still try to figure out even while writing this review. In conclusion, this track has everything from a storyline to a strong musical sense that surges from end to end of Rock music. Other than the genuine latter track, I was mystified by the vocal oriented "D Day", "Remembering Mirrors", followed by great guest female vocals of Christianna of the band ELYSION and the closing of "AIRATH", kind of a word game with the planet's name, which is another unsolved enigma.
Like many Progressive albums, whether Rock or Metal, there is always a line of thought that is not so understandable. The fascination with what is going on within one's soul and mind is probably one of the most interesting ventures that any musical group would take it as a challenge. In the case of SEPTEMBER CODE, the outcome, with all of its high quality musical setups made by high rate members, the lesson learned is the main thing while the music serve as the watcher in the sky.
