What can I say, festering within the heart of Danmarks underground metal scene of Copenhagen brought together a disgusting group that contaminated the streets. Like a putrid infection, it ravaged the scene as their blistering plague of gore spread outwards and amassed an impressive following. Their plague of intense bursts, harsh gurgled vocals and heavy low tuned riffs that coat a barrage of blast beats spread like a disease. This group I am talking about is SEPTAGE who took shape and formed in the year of 2020. With the pandemic raging across the planet, this group would unleash their own and release their first EP “Septic Decadence”.

The band was formed by “Malik” of HYPERDONTIA, “Ugur” of ASCENDENCY and “Tobias” to bring together a truly disgusting sound and showcase what grindcore should be. With a handful of great earlier releases and now under the label Dark Descent Records, SEPTAGE released their debut full-length and final album all in the same. “Septic Worship (Intolerant Spree Of Infesting Forms)” released on March 29, 2024 has fifteen solid tracks of death grindcore that ravages you for 20:21 minutes. It starts fast and loud, and before you realize what happened, it’s over and gone. Such is the way of grindcore.

At first glance, I have to chuckle to myself. Heavily influenced by the grindcore theme of vile imagery, the album art is like their album art prior, a collective group of photos cut out and placed together to form a grotesque collage. From sewage pipes pouring out raw sewage waste, heaps of garbage of what appears to be some kind of landfill and of course, what looks like gore and guts. All photos cut out to form this album art and with the album name in the typical goregrind fashion, uses the typical font to spell out their album name at the bottom. “Inauguration Of Septic Tank Release And Epic Faecal Sludge Chug-Off” I must say is a fantastic title for a goregrind track and is the introduction and start to the album. Fast heavy chugging with a deep gurgling scream that hits so hard and vomits all over you. Before you can process it, the track ends within five seconds. An intense start.

As the album takes off hard and fast these guys throw the death influenced tremolo picking as they pulverize you with thick guitar riffs that coat the heavy drumming and fast blast beats while the vocals puke on you. With each song roughly averaging around the two minute mark. It is as fast and intense as grindcore gets but with the thick stench of death. Surprisingly for a grindcore band, SEPTAGE does incorporate some technicality to some degree with even some well timed and placed solos. Was not expecting that.

Transilience of Parasitic Infestation (Septic Engorgement) Has a more sludge-like low tuned drowned out melodic chord progression that gives off a dream-like altered state of mind as it oozes forward. While tracks like “Airborne Droplets of the Infected” waste no time in aggressively barraging you with thick and heavy tone. With the inhuman vocals growling over the chugging the break for a disgusting solo.

For a grindcore album that's influenced by the stench of some good old death metal, “Septic Worship (Intolerant Spree Of Infesting Forms)” definitely does the trick. These guys pay their respect to what grindcore was and do a solid job at it. If you enjoy the filth of grindcore, then I recommend that you grab a copy and add this album to your collection. It is really too bad that this was their final album. But when you have done all that you set out to do and said what needed to be said then what else is left other than to end it. It's best to end it on a good note and I feel that's what happened here.
