SCULFORGE hail from Germany playing a modern brand of old school speed and thrash metal. In the middle of the first pandemic lockdown, Polly and Fabz had the idea to start a new project. Polly's love of computer games & science fiction literature would inspire the concept to use the Warhammer 40.000 game as their backdrop. This is a realm set in the distant future where mankind is under attack by alien and supernatural forces. The band constructed their songs as part of a trilogy, which form individual tales, but also as part of a larger storyline.
The EP comprises of 7 tracks, 4 of which are narrative pieces keeping in context with the Warhammer storyline. The first song proper is "For the Omnissiah" and starts off with some BLIND GUARDIAN-like vocal interplay before kicking into speed metal mode. There are strong melodic guitar lines throughout the song over the relentless double bass drumming. The tempo calms briefly for the chorus where the backing vocals add in a memorable hook. The title track is another full-on speed metal assault and again the melodic guitar lines are to the forefront. "Spacehulk" is a more riff-heavy track and moves closer to thrash territory.
SCULFORGE will be releasing a new song "The Emperor Protects" in the near future. In conclusion: this an enjoyable blast of often melodic speed metal with a hint of thrash. The songs are fast and catchy, it is just a pity there were only 3 full length songs on offer.
