Glory Riders

Savage

On the Encyclopaedia Metallum site they compare the music of SAVAGE to early W.A.S.P., and I have to say, that is not a bad comparison at all, but just without the gory/sexually explicit lyrics.

This is another SAVAGE to be reckoned with. Originating from Bavaria in Germany they are a NWOTHM/Glam Metal band with a sound that should appeal to a lot of Glam, Party and Traditional Heavy Metal fans. The band was formed in 2019, and so far, have released a self-titled EP in 2022. This makes “Glory Riders” their debut album, and to cut to the chase, I’ve heard a lot worse. Yes, I’ve also experienced better ones, but I have to say that the enjoyment factor on “Glory Riders” is quite high.

On the Encyclopaedia Metallum site they compare the music of SAVAGE to early W.A.S.P., and I have to say, that is not a bad comparison at all, but just without the gory/sexually explicit lyrics. For me that makes this one a challenge, as I am not a fan of the early era of W.A.S.P.. I prefer their “Crimson Idol” years. But then again, as “Glory Riders” is only 36 minutes long, there is not much time to get bored, or to overthink things. And that is exactly as how the music of SAVAGE reaches my ears and brains, as no-nonsense, straight forward super simple Heavy Metal that is fine to listen to and tap your feet, or even bang your head to if that is what you wish to do. You can even use “Glory Riders” as background music when you have visitors.

The thing is, the musicians as well as the singer Pawel Nemkovic are doing a proper job. The sound on “Glory Riders” reminds me of that of “Master Control” by LIEGE LORD, which suits me just fine.  Is what I am listening to be classified as really good? I’m not sure, as I am enjoying the music. On the other hand, it is not making a certain impression on me, which results in me taking extra notice. The songs are all sound in their foundations, but none of them stick out, could be called a cut above the rest. Therefore I can’t call this bad either, because nowhere do I find myself adverse to the sounds that SAVAGE are bringing to the table on “Glory Riders”. So , there is only one way to classify this, which is okay. Just a bit above mediocre, but below good. I wish I could make more out of what I am hearing, but unfortunately that’s not going to happen.
