SATURNALIA TEMPLE is a Swedish Doom Metal band and gravity is their third full length album.  They have also released a demo, two EP s and a split. SATURNALIA TEMPLE's "Gravity," is one of the weirdest and most diverse albums I have heard in many months.  When the first moments of the album began I wasn't sure what to expect.  With each passing track I felt like I was rediscovering the band as I was falling deeper and deeper into this Doom Metal rabbit hole.  Overall, I would say they are more Traditional Doom than anything despite having many different elements pop up throughout the album.  Still, for as much as the band changes their tone and style across the tracks, I would even go as far to say they have elements of Prog in them, although nothing here is technical or overly complicated.

The first proper track, "Saturnalia Temple," is more along the lines of Traditional Doom, but has elements of psychedelia in the vocals that have this weird echo effect.  Musically, the track is Sabbath worship but very bass heavy-a lot of fuzz here. When I made it to the next track, "Gravity," I was startled by the sudden shift in sound.  The vocals switch to Death growls and the music took on much more of a Stoner/Sludge Doom vibe.  Towards the end of the track, the music gets hazy and more alien sounding.

"Bitter Taste," features the band with a simple, stripped down sound and some odd vocal effects—it might be the vocalist or maybe a group of people chanting. It was hard to tell but it definitely gave the song a mystic vibe, which is probably what the band wanted anyway. Everything I heard from this album was thrown into the mixer for the track "Oannes," but still sounded wholly unique.  Musically, the music was very hypnotic and almost sounded cult like, very dangerous and even somewhat scary.

This album is quite the experience-one that I think any fan of Doom should take at least once.  It may not be for everyone but at the very least it will be something you probably haven't heard before. I personally found it a breath of fresh air-though I felt some aspects of the album worked better than others, I was never bored listening to it straight thru and, if anything, I was always curious to see what would happen next.
