Canada's Death Metal trio SATANIC, (formerly known as SATANIC GLUE SNIFFERS) formed in 2016 in Quebec. "Architecture of Chaos" is the band's debut album, and contains eight tracks. "Mephistophelian" leads off the album. It has an old school Thrash Metal sound; driven by aggressive riffs and raspy Death Metal vocals that fall somewhere between the Thrash and Death genres. There is a bit of a phasing issue sometimes, and although they aren't re-inventing the wheel, the song pulses with energy. "World of Chaos" is an anguished track that moves quickly, with again the main focus on the driving guitar work. The drum work is also doing a good job of providing the pacing and with some fancy frills.

"Architecture of Apocalypse" starts off slowly and ominously, pushing that feeling of doom. From there it turns forward sharply, with a speedy riff and anguished vocals. "Armageddon" is a gut-wrenching audible depiction of the anarchy that would reign if the world was ending. In proto-typical Thrash fashion, the riffs are fast picked and ever changing. "Biotech Warfare" has some dissonance amidst the discord of melody. Some of those phasing issues are perceptible here again as well. I don't believe it is tied to the production but it could be. Closing the album is the ode to one of the worst disasters the world has ever experienced; the meltdown of a nuclear facility in Russia.

When they talked about their mission to provide old-school, no frills Death/Thrash metal, they were not joking. It's like you stepped back in time to the mid to late 80's when the Death Metal movement first arose. Even the production reflects a dirty and raw sound. However, there is little to distinguish themselves from the sea of bands who have already composed this sound over and over again. If you like the classics, I think you will like this album. But if you are longing for a new sound, move on.
