Sadist - Season In Silence album cover

My opinion about the general state of the Italian Metal scene is known through the various reviews I have written and as you can understand it definitely isn't the best. Three years ago I got a promo from an Italian band called SADIST, a band I didn't have the pleasure to know... until then! SADIST have created a respectable name in the underground scene with pretty good releases and have gained fans worldwide. Damn! Why did I miss them when they visited Greece with CYNIC?

With a brand new contract with the Italian label Scarlet Records, a label that has bands like Spice's KAYSER and SPICE AND THE RJ BAND, LABYRINTH and NECRODEATH to name a few. With a label able to do more things for them and a new album that simply kills, the Italian metallers are trying to make one step further and from what I listened to in "Season In Silence" they will succeed!

I realize that the first thing that came to your mind when you saw the band's name is the US high and mighty technical Thrash/Death band SADUS. Hmmm, close enough since SADIST is a highly technical Progressive Death Metal band that has surely drawn some influences from the US legends. With a crystal clear sound by their side, the Italian deathsters offer an album that knows no musical boundaries. I remember their previous full-length work even featured the sounds of bouzouki, a Greek traditional instrument. With "Season In Silence", SADIST offer a Death Metal album that keeps the balance between brutality, technique, groove, atmosphere and melody. Trevor's harsh vocals are accompanied by Tommy's insane fusion and brutal shreds, while Andy and Alessio are more precise than a Swiss clock!

"Season In Silence" is actually an album for those who like CYNIC but think they are too "psychedelic" and not as brutal as they should be, or think that SADUS should feature more Death Metal elements in their music. The Italians did it again! Sadistically sadistic!
