Retrieval

Sacri Monti

This was an excellent album, and the band presents a very genuine sound here crossing the barrier between the sounds of yesteryear, and the modern sound of today. There are also excellent musicians, and present their skills within the context of the music, which always takes center stage.

“Formed in San Diego in 2012, SACRI MONTI has transcended genres and sonic expectations to create a sound so unique, their name has become synonymous with invention. Signed to Tee Pee Records, this July will see the official release of their third studio album, “Retrieval.” There’s no question that SACRI MONTI has upped their game on this one and we highly advise you to do the same.”

“Maelstrom” is the first cut, and it reminds me of a cross between BLACK SABBATH and early RUSH, especially considering the structure of the vocals and the nifty meter shifts. “Desirable Sequel” begins with somber clean guitar tones that lead to a sturdier riff, and the melodies here are emotionally charged. The band puts a good deal of thought into these compositions so far as well, toggling between moments of energy and moments of melancholy, with excellent drum fills. “Intermediate Death” begins with some rough accents in the riff that showcases some of the band’s excellent musicianship. Old school keys take over from there with more somber tones. I love the amount of energy the band puts into each song…it makes me want to get up and join them in a jam.

“Blackish Honeycomb” has some really nice bass guitar work, and some psychedelic sounds that spring out of the background. I also love the funky breakdown after the half-way mark…it shows another side of the band and that they like to have fun with their music. “Moon Canyon” is a short little acoustical number with a sweet melody…the kind that warms your heart. “More Than I” closes the album. A ripping blues guitar solo leads off the song, and what feeling he plays with. In fact, the entire song drips with heavy emotional qualities and even has a LED ZEPP vibe at times. I love the canvas they paint here…it is both melancholy and urging.

Overall, this was an excellent album, and the band presents a very genuine sound here crossing the barrier between the sounds of yesteryear, and the modern sound of today. There are also excellent musicians, and present their skills within the context of the music, which always takes center stage.
