Sacred Reich - Surf Nicaragua (Reissue) album cover

As "Ignorance" showed potential and earned SACRED REICH a legion of fans throughout the world, something must be done to increase their commercial growth. But maybe due the short time, the band released an EP. And "Surf Nicaragua" came to light on 1988. But it had as effect the spread even more of the band's name throughout the world, but did more than that.

Internally, the EP showed a shift from the previous material. Now, the quartet, even keeping its natural aggressiveness and identity, improved things, as their songs became more polished and increased the melodic aspects of it, as well as their musical weight becomes more evident. Even the vocals are better worked this time, what means that "Surf Nicaragua" represents a step ahead of what was done on "Ignorance" into what the band was going to conceive in their best releases. Once more, the quartet worked with Bill Metoyer in the production, but they worked as co-producers once more. And even this aspect improved a lot: the sonority of "Surf Nicaragua" is way better, clearer and better defined, and not sounding so crude. The instrumental tunes are better heard, and the arrangements are clearer for all to hear.

The EP has six songs: the new ones "Surf Nicaragua" (that shows how they improved in terms of arrangements, as bass guitar and drums are showing fine parts, and excellent rhythmic shifts, and some bits of the song "Wipe Out" from THE SURFARIS, and popularized in 1987 by a version of FAT BOYS FEAT. THE BEACH BOYS as well, and on the drums, there's a part from the 'Hawaii 5-0' series theme song), "One Nation" (a heavy bone crusher, using slow tempos contrasting with fast moments, and the vocals are n+1! times better than in the past), and "Draining You of Life" (this one is nearer of what can be found on "Ignorance", but in an improved way, especially the guitars); the liver versions of "Ignorance" and "Death Squad"; and an excellent version of the band for the classic "War Pigs" (from Metal fathers of BLACK SABBATH, an unusual song for them, if the reader think only on what they did on "Ignorance"), faithful to the original, but played in their own way.

At this time, SACRED REICH was earning more and more fans, in an unusual growth for a band in such a way. But "Surf Nicaragua" was paving the way for something that would shock their fans...
