Today I will be reviewing "Evil Nightmares", the debut album from the Heavy Metal band RULER. RULER hails from Milan, Italy, it was formed in 2010 and it consists of Paolo Pontiggia (Bass), Rosario Alcaro (Drums), Mattia Baldoni (Guitars) and Daniele Valentini (Vocals). This band aims to bring back the sound of early Heavy Metal and it reminded me a lot of L.A. based heavy Metallers WHITE WIZZARD.

The album starts with the Wagnerian war inspired intro called Intro ("A Duty Dance with Death") which then leads into "Mayday", a very cool song with great operatic vocals done by Valentini and a great guitar work done by Baldoni, with great solos which consistently appear throughout the album. It is undeniable that all of those guys have ability in their instruments but I found it to be a pretty average album with nothing really all that mind-blowing about it.

There are some cool songs in here like "Limpieza De Sangre" that has a cool interlude in it but that are some that aren't all that great like the song "Sutjeska" that I found it to be really annoying, don't get me wrong it has a cool instrumental work, great rhythm and lead work, but when Valentini cries "Sutjeska" it actually made my skin crawl. This band, like I said before, aims to revive the early sounds of Heavy Metal and it succeeds, but without bringing anything new into their sound, it makes for a very non-refreshing album, there is nothing special about it or especially life-changing.
