Riptide Messiah - MMXX album cover

"MMXX" was released in January 2021 by RIPTIDE MESSIAH. The band are from Manchester, formed together in 2016, and had previously gigged in 2019. The EP opens with a thrilling melody which was played on piano and has low male chanting voices in "45 Seconds Of Your Life You'll Never Get Back (Intro)" it invites us slowly into the album almost like the calm before the storm.

In "Wings Of The Hallowed" the guitar riff plays previous songs piano melody, with added drums, carrying the low chanting throughout the song. The vocals had some good high notes bringing the song together nicely and suits the lyrical content. Around the 3-minute mark the guitar dies down, the drums take over and the vocals change to a distorted almost demonic voice. A low rumble on the drums that rise in anticipation to return to the main melody of the song.

"Idle Hands" portraits someone being lonely, feeling destressed and tired the lyrics are very emotional, and the mixture of heavy drums and pinch harmonics do a good job of making the song interesting and very fun to listen to. The guitar on this track is especially good as it adds to the chaos of the lyrics.

"Still Human" is a true Metal song from the heavy guitar and heavy drums and has one of the best guitar solos on the album at 3-minute mark. There's anger in the vocals to match the aggressive lyrics.  bBridge Of Solace" is the slowest song on ep but is very beautiful. It starts with a soft melody played on guitars and crescendos into the drums and bass. The bass riff is prominent in this song and it carries the song smoothly alongside the emotional melancholic voice, especially in the chorus. The guitar really adds to the sadness of the song there is impressive use of the guitar, different melodies and solos done perfectly. The track then quiets down and ends slowly with the guitar drifting off. "Meet One's End" starts with the sound of wind, birds croaking and a loud bell, then a beautiful guitar riff joins in and then different pitch chanting voices harmonizing. The song has a very eerie sound.  "Meet One's End" ends the album with a calming song.

RIPTIDE MESSIAH sing and play with emotion with lyrics about homelessness and racism. Nikhil Hathiwala's voice has a good range with a combination of raspy low notes and that high Metal scream. The guitar riffs sound as if influenced by IRON MAIDEN or possibly MEGADEATH. The band has lots of potential and the album is a great addition to Metal.
