Back in the day (that means when I was much younger), female fronted rock n' roll bands were hard to find, and a really good one, was even harder to come by. A large majority were more of a gimmick than a talented, highly respected artist. But over time, really talented female vocalists have become a common thing in the hard rock/heavy metal genre, and REVENANT continues this trend.
Playing a distinctive groove-infused, doom sound, REVENANT is a really good, hard rock outfit that WILL "make some noise" in the not so distant future. And with the release of their recently released 3-song EP, "Tundra", they deliver a sound that's heavy as hell, displaying a powerful, bluesy groove, reminiscent of old KING's X. Formed in 2013 and hailing from South Wales, the band consists of Anna Williams on vocals and guitar, Stuart Fouweather on guitar, Matthew Davis on drums, and Jason Norman on bass. Williams' voice has a dark, grungy ALANIS MORISSETTE style tone and she steals the show on this record. But don't get me wrong, this band is not a "one trick pony"; the guitar tracks, with big chunky riffs and wailing solos, similar to what you might hear on a GODSMACK record, are in the same vein as the classic old school style of power, with just the right amount of down-tuned distortion, to call it a doom sound. And with a bottom end that will rattle your speakers, this band has everything needed to propel them into the upper echelon of the hard rock arena.
Being relatively new to the scene, and having already release a two song demo in 2013 to much fanfare and critical acclaim, this EP should be the introduction to the masses that REVERANT needs to put them on the hard rock map. Playing an infectious heavy sound, and possessing the talent and songwriting ability to stand out from the pack, they are surely one of the "bands to watch" in the months and years to come. The only problem with "Tundra" is that there are only three songs, and with music this good, I want more, dammit!! I see no holding them back; "it's on now"!!!<
