Redshark - Digital Race album cover

In the world of heaviness I have to admit that somehow Spain is gaining a lot of ground when it comes to producing good bands that are making quite pleasant music and feeding us with great albums. While there are some bands that are different (like CRISIX), the majority of them are supporting the good old-fashioned Heavy Metal flag in one way or another. And yes, of course REDSHARK is one of those in the latter category. And boy, have they surprised me with their latest offering called "Digital Race".  These guys know what they're doing, and they do it to a very high quality.

As soon as the opening song "The Drill State" starts you're confronted with a rather fast rhythm, screeching guitars, pounding drums and a really thunderous bass. It immediately makes my hair stand on end, puts a smile on my face and brings me into a happier atmosphere. Boy, this sounds good. This is the whole package. And when Pau Correas adds his lyrical contribution that joy only gets expanded, as his vocals are the proverbial icing on the cake. That feeling doesn't diminish when I keep going, as even the Pony Metal rhythms on "Never Too Late" are chosen exactly as they should.

And know I could keep on mentioning every song one by one, but for those who read my reviews, you know that's not my style. I'd rather explain what "Digital Race" does for me, and that is make me extremely happy. REDSHARK is Spain at its best, correction, this is Catalunya and Barcelona showing what quality they have to offer. Every song is right on the money, has just what you'd expect from a good band, and occasionally even challenges the greats in the business. I'm sincerely impressed. Even the (in my eyes and ears) dodgy keyboard intro of "Arrival" can't get me to stray from my views and thoughts, especially when the song that follows just exudes brilliance. Like the y all do, actually.

But don't forget, these guys are no novices. They started in 2012 and in that time REDSHARK has made two EP's before "Digital Race" that I haven't heard until now. But you can be assured that I for one will be on the lookout for those in their physical form. I have to, because if I don't I will have the feeling that as a fan I am selling REDSHARK and myself short. And just to be blunt; that's just not done!
