Raw In Sect

Who in their weirdest of thoughts and wildest of dreams would have thought that someday, that someday, we would have a Thrash Metal band named RAW IN SECT, but here we are with their 2nd full length album "Blue Haze". This album has some unique songs as the band brings in psychedelic feel to Thrash, something I had never heard before, in fact more psychedelic than Thrash as the album progresses.
Let me explain. For example, the 3rd song here "Cutting My Skin" starts of in a mid tempo song with Grungy vocals with some psychedelic riffs before going high tempo and the Thrash route. "Black Stoner" almost sounds like a typical Stoner Metal song, but the band just trying to play it faster. Even the lyrics here deal with 'being or not - stoner', hahaha. Wonder what planet the band were in when writing the music! The band succeeds in exploring new boundaries of music never heard before in the lines of Progressive Metal.
The band even tries slow synthetic guitar work in "Abeer Qassim Hamz", and it's again very psychedelic. This song seems to be a tribute to 14-year-old Iraqi girl who was gang-raped and killed by US military soldiers in 2009. So you know, these guys bring in some serious subjects in their lyrics too. The band seems to have hit the sweet spot between Thrash and Psychedelic routes with the title track "Blue Haze" and have also rightly promoted their album with this song. The guitar solos here are of the highest standard and give multiple eargasms in just a single song.
If you think the band hasn't been experimental enough so far, how about some piano solos with sounds of saw cutting a wood plank in background in "Migraines". "High On Waves" starts off with some dark haunting music and grungy vocals, before going to the traditional screaming vocals and blasting some headbanging drum beats. The album ends with 2 songs which are mostly of haunting drone sounds with some occasional voices indicating the theme of this album, which is non-violence against women. It's a little tough to comprehend and digest why RAW IN SECT would go such drastic lengths of experimentation to send their message and not play some actual heavy music.
While lot of the elements in this album are praise worthy, there are some phases in the album, like the last one that totally spoil the party.
Pick this album if you're in an experimental mode or just in some secluded place, because RAW IN SECT has rawness of their feelings felt in all of their music. It may not be an album that will tickle everyone's bones, but what this album does is explore new sounds in music. Though the band is being promoted as a Thrash Metal band, in reality hard-core fans of Progressive music may dig the music on offer here.
