Some bands have been around a lot longer than you expect. Others seem to have a life span that you just can't muster. QUARTZ seems to have been around since the start of time. They have been around since 1974, when they were called BANDY LEGS. When they recorded their debut album "Quartz" in 1977, they changed their name to QUARTZ. That album was actually produced by Tony Iommi, and they even had Ozzy Osbourne singing backing vocals on the song "Circles", which ended up as the B-side of the single "Stroking The Fires Of Hell", and as a bonus track on the 2004 rerelease of their second album "Stand Up And Fight", which originally came out in 1980.

Since then, the band have released two more full length albums, one in 1983 called "Against All Odds", and another one in 2016 named "Fear No Evil". They are also very much worthy of the band QUARTZ. After losing original singer Mike "Taffy" Taylor in 2016 and original keyboardist Geoff Nichols (BLACK SABBATH) in 2017, both through death, they have resurrected themselves with "On the Edge Of No Tomorrow", which was let out to the world on May 20^th 2022. And I can only conclude that they have been successful in making the right kind of impact on the musical world.

"On the Edge Of No Tomorrow" harbours all the traits that you will associate with QUARTZ. That is, if you know their history by having heard their music before. it has a lot of similarities with the Ozzy era of BLACK SABBATH, but also has a very distinctive and recognisable sound that is purely that of QUARTZ. And to make it even better, new vocalist Geoff Bate fits like the proverbial glove. He has a very pure voice, melodic but also very with that slightly monotonous timbre that has him sounding like himself with a hint of Ozzy. I don't think that anyone will object to someone sounding like he does fronting this very good album.

Yes, "On the Edge Of No Tomorrow" is very good indeed. The songs are strong, they have enough variety to make sure this never gets boring or that every song sounds the same. It does touch the edges of Doom Metal, BLACK SABBATH, NWOBHM and even Stoner Rock, but as the feel of the album is very much rooted in the eighties, it makes it into a proper QUARTZ album. and that, my friends, is more than good enough for me.
