Proscription - Conduit album cover

On September 24, 2020, PROSCRIPTION released "Conduit". Though this Finnish Blackened Death Metal band is new, the members are not new to the scene. PROSCRIPTION came out of a desire by Christbutcher, the guitarist and vocalist, to continue on the same path as his previous band MAVETH. Other than Christbutcher, the lineup is completely different, however. So far, PROSCRIPTION has only released a demo back in 2017, making "Conduit" the band's first full-length release.

PROSCRIPTION plays a great blend of black and death metal. The brutality of death metal is mixed with the infernal atmospheric nature of black metal. The first track is the ominously eerie intro "Four Wings Within The Samiel". It sets the stage for the dark swirling maelstrom of riffs on "I, The Burning Son". Both this track and the next, "Red Sacrament Black Communion", show the band mixing the heaviness of death metal with the atmosphere and fast pacing of black metal. "Radiant Midnight" is comparatively slower, though still heavy. The hefty sound brings to mind the massive riffs of early Finnish death.

On "Thy Black Nimbus Gate", Dave Otero, the owner, engineer, and producer at Flatline Audio Studio, provides guest vocals. The dual growling vocals, backed by that heavy and dark low-end, works together to create a truly evil sound. On "Voiceless Calling", there is another guest providing vocals, Than Wilson of CASKET HUFFER. His vocals provide a different sound than the vocals of Dave Otero, adding some variety to the album. If you want blasphemous riffs, look no further than the wailing riffs of "Blessed Feast Of Black Seth". "To Reveal The Words Without Words" starts off slow, but builds up to a grand display of unholiness.

This is a fantastic album from PROSCRIPTION, and a debut to boot. The album is effortlessly evil. Fans of newer BEHEMOTH would like the infernal sound and relatively clean production of "Conduit". Not a track is out of place or repetitive. Overall, I recommend PROSCRIPTION's "Conduit", especially to fans of demonic and heavy Blackened Death metal.
