Beneath An Alien Sky

Well it took them sometime but eventually they manage to gather and give a shape to their album. A work that started in 2004 and finished in 2006 must have something to say right? No I am not talking about the new album of DEF LEPPARD but the debut work of PROMETHEUS. This Stockholm-based band exists since 2002 and so far they have released a couple of demo. Beneath An Alien Sky is their debut work and its an interesting one...
Beneath An Alien Sky brings in mind a lot of things while at the same time it's more then obvious to pinpoint the bands influences. Take some ICED EARTH, a bit of OPETH, maybe a dash of THE GATHERING and you start getting the picture. Still this is not a sloppy collage of influences and overworked techniques. This is more like a delicate attachment of ideas and thoughts all together forming a very interesting piece of work.
Aggressive parts are followed by melancholic ones, while the vocal abilities of Sharon are quite good, yet I think her voice has a long road to cover to reach the levels of other female singers. The only problem I've noticed is the average Production unfortunately an album like this one demands a much better production since the moody sound inherited here is not helping at all the listening of such complex material.
I guess you can't have it all. This is a very interesting debut album. I'm pretty sure we will hear more from them hopefully soon.
