Precambrian - Tectonics album cover

To search for something new into the past is twice as hard as to try something new. Especially if the matter subject of the talk is extreme Metal genres. But trying to evade such problems, the Ukrainian trio PRECAMBRIAN tries something different into their concepts, as can be heard on "Tectonics". Their musical efforts result in a Black Metal format that can remind in some moments as Maniac (former MAYHEM vocalist) could sing on old GORGOROTH (in the times of "Pentagram" and "Antichrist"). But the band uses some simple and catchy rhythmic changes along very good guitars, creating a straight and chilling ambiance that binds the listeners' attention (just pay attention on "Volcanic Winter" and everyone will understand the deeper sense of these words). It's truly raw and putrid, but what can an Old School Black Metal fan wants more of an album?

As those that are into Black Metal can expect, the sound quality is crude and nasty. It's to preserve the 'ugly aesthetics', that same rebellion that arose on Norway on the 90's, staying away from what could be 'beautiful'. But the band's work can be understood, so it's not something so bad and unexpected. The five songs are all very good Black Metal dark arrows, but the unexpected feature is that the band seems to use themes into Geology (for those into Earth Sciences, as me, the name of the songs refer to known matters). But as the music is what really matters, the brutal and fast approach used on "Fossilization" (the drums uses that old and constant pile-driving beats, even with some little moments with slow paces), the good and catching guitars of "Volcanic Winter" (very good shrieks as well), and the nasty tempos contrasts used on "P-Tr. Extinction" are the best ones. The others are good as well.

PRECAMBRIAN is really a promising name, but with a better sonority (they can sound aggressive and bitter in the same way, but with a sharpened sound quality), and no one will hold them back. "Tectonics" is a proof of these words.
