Ashen Womb
Phrenelith

The Danish underground, has under the last ten years, really become something to check up. And I talk for many genres of metal. But the death metal genre is really good. Bands like Undergang, Chaotian, Deiquisitor and of course Phrenelith. For some people out there, fans of Undergang, the voice might be familiar time from time. Yes, David Torturdød, or just David, stands for the growl in Phrenelith as well. The most musician's in Phrenelith has more than one band. The first track on the album "Noemata" is an instrumental doom track (surprise), makes you think of Death and Armageddon. Just like the band's lyrics.
"Astral Larvae" is the second track, (I will not go track by track here), and you hear the inspiration from US death metal. The third track, "A Husk Wrung Dry" is a really old school death metal track, Ashen Womb has a dirty sound, the most band in this genre aim for it, and a track like "A Husk Wrung Dry" would not be the same if the production was more clear. Phrenelith is known for good albums, but I did not see "Nebulae" coming, the most melodic and technical track on the album so far. The drums, has a bit Morbid Angel hint, it's a fast pace track, but has in some weird way a doom feeling to it. Rhythm changes, and a strong lead guitar. David's growl is more clear on this track. One of the best track I heard from Phrenelith. No, it's not a mainstream track, but it's really good.
"Stagnated Blood" has also something a bit odd over it, and like "Nebulae", the track shows, that the influences is not only US death metal, makes me think of Entombed, "Stagnated Blood" is another track worth to check up, strong lead guitar, and a lot of atmosphere. The last track "Ashen Womb" is almost 10 minutes long, and never boring. It's an art, play old school death metal and do tracks above 6 minutes. You really have to use rhythm changes, get an atmosphere, keep it alive all the time, dare to push limits. And that, is what makes Phrenelith so strong as a band, they are good musicians, can really take it to the limit. And they somehow make that Armageddon atmosphere, be a part of the music.Phrenelith and Ashen Womb are great Danish Death Metal, and they hold the Dannebrog high on this album too.
