This doesn’t happen too often. What? Well, that a guitarist of a Metal Band from São Paulo, Brazil sends you a YouTube lyrical video of a complete record of 63 minutes of music, consisting of all 13 singles they released as singles in the last two and a half years. It happened to me when I got the “Genesis” record from PERSEVERA. After I had a brief listen, I found that at first glance I was liking what I was hearing, so could Danilo Bredda please send me more information if he wanted me to review it for METAL TEMPLE. Well, as I am writing it now you see that he decided to answer that question in a positive manner.

Danilo sent me this: ‘PERSEVERA is a project started in Sumaré, Brazil in mid-2020 by Danilo Bredda (guitar), together with Paulo Carrara (vocals), Thadeu Castro (bass) and Claudio Lima (drums). Since then, the band has been in the studio recording, the material of which is enough for two complete albums. The band's strategy is to release each song as a single; It was the band's way of staying more active on social media and gradually increasing their fan base.’ At least it shows that the band is up with the modern times, which is a good thing.

In the info the band states a lot of bands as influences, but to me there is one very obvious one, which is GRAND MAGUS. The sound of the PERSEVERA songs is just as Heavy and intense as that of their peers from Sweden The guitars sound fabulous, but I have to wonder how Danilo Bredda is going to replicate the double rhythm guitars on his own in a live setting. The drums and bass are providing a very solid base for the music on “Genesis”, making the songs above average in quality, but only just.

The only thing that makes me give PERSEVERA and “Genesis” a score that isn’t superb is due to the vocals. Paulo Carrara is a more than adequate singer, but he misses that little bit of extraordinary class like JB Christofferson of GRAND MAGUS possesses. Don’t get me wrong, he never is out of tune, he never lets the music down, but at the same time he doesn’t lift it up to that extra level that is needed to stand out. I therefore can only conclude that “Genesis” is a very pleasant album by PERSEVERA, making me hungry for the second album, which the band are in the process of recording as I type this review.
