Cyan Night Dreams
Parasite Inc.
From their EPK, "In 2022 AD, PARASITE INC. present themselves in a sound robe that is equally harder as it is softer, faster and slower at the same time - more modern and yet again more "80s" than ever before! Such musical contrasts are no novelty for PARASITE INC., though: After all, the Swabians have been surprising the world again and again with their somewhat different interpretation of the Melodic Death Metal genre since the inception of their career." The new album contains ten songs.
"Lithium" is the first. The electronic and smooth vibes here are really cool, and set the stage for the album. "I Am" is the first proper song. Although the riff is fairly simple and the vocals are all harsh, they work in some welcomed melody at the chorus, and the section following the second chorus breathes nicely. "First Born" begins with a dark and aggressive riff, and a little more of that electronica. I have to admit, I like the electronica...it brings a different element to the table. The leads are also well done. The title track features electronics at the base along with the guitars. The cleans are another addition that the band hardly used before, and I am glad they are expanding their sound.
"In False Light" also has electronics at the base. Again, the riffs are fairly simple but the sound expands at the chorus, and after, with some clean vocals ambient moments. "Osmium" is a short little piano number with some backing elements. The piano notes are delicate and ominous at the same time, and provide warning for what is to come. "Follow the Blind" features more synths and a heavy, bossy sound. The verses are tense with thick bass notes, and the song opens up more in the chorus. So far, this album is very well crafted. "Under Broken Skies" is yet another song that embraces the use synths. The clean vocals sound like they are coming from a cyborg. The common heavy elements abound, but this song is catchy and those hooks will reel you in. "Into Destruction" is a more straightforward slab of Melodic Death Metal, but the band took a cue from IN FLAMES with a long and drawn out chorus that is quite catchy.
"When All is Said" closes the album, with a more melancholy sound from the synths and clean vocals. Harsh vocals eradicate the scene with another strong and memorable chorus. From what I can remember from the early part of this band's career, they have matured, welcoming some outside elements into their music. Purists and long-time fans may not like the updated sound, but I say use everything and anything that will help separate you from your peers in this deep and vast sub-genre. They have successfully breathed life into a stale genre. Bravo, gentlemen!
