Forgotten Days

The storied career of Little Rock, Arkansas' own PALLBEARER leaves so many opportunities to sing their accolades. The sheer volume and tenure of their work, the passion evident in their music, and the massive following they've accumulated over the years prove that when it comes to Heavy Metal in general, these guys are already true titans in the community, nevermind their near-godlike status in the ranks of Doom Metal.
Their October 2020 release "Forgotten Days" is their latest testament to their power and commitment to pump out music with rich fervor without sacrificing the quality for which they have come to be known. In keeping with their tried-and-true formula, each track on this album encompasses the listener and leaves a trace of haunted tones even after the last note fades out. The slow, driving instrumentation allows one to dissociate and fall forward, eyes closed, completely into the flood of sound emanating from the speakers. The "wall of sound" effect (think like: Type O Negative) they utilize so well cements the feeling of one's quickly-incoming apocalyptic fate. Even the song structure varies so distinctly from song to song that the listener is easily captivated and personally speaking, left excited to hear the next way the next building block of a given song was put into place.
The ethereal flavours of Brett's vocals provide a wealth of range, depth, and diversity throughout the entirety of the album. Whether the vocals call for a long note to be carried through a few measures or steady influx of lyrics, his voice echoes through the atmosphere of music with such softness while remaining stern and unwavering in its approach. Fans of PALLBEARER such as the author of this article will find much to enjoy from their latest offering. It shows just how skilled and masterful the band's members are at finding fresh directions to take a subgenre that is not widely known for its diversity in sound and style. Enough cannot be said to their credit, and "Forgotten Days" deserves a place on any metal yearly top album list for 2020!
