Palimpsest - Thro' and under

PALIMPSEST is a Death Metal band from both Portugal and New Zealand and there isn't much information regarding this band on the internet, but if you want to  hear something creepy and weird this is for you. They have recently released their newest EP "Thro' and under, I have drunk of the fountains, where jokulls loom" and that's what we are going to talk about.

The opening song from the album is "Thro' ghoul-guarded gateways of slumber" and it starts out with some people talking and some background noises. It turns into something very bad mixed where you can not even hear most of the guitar riffs. The drums are better, but their sound is still not good enough and the vocals are the best part of it. "Under sinister grey-clouded skies" starts in a more direct way than the previous song, but you still can't hear the guitar riffs, only a noisy sound followed by the drumming, a speech and the good vocals that reminded me of CANNIBAL CORPSE.

"I have drunk of the fog-foetid fountains" is a very weird and creepy song with a lot of distorted guitar riffs and some vocal varieties that will give you some goosebumps for being creepy. It has some different elements and more horror than the previous songs. "Where the jokulls loom snow-clad and drear" starts out with some vocal speech and something that feels like a lot of psychiatric voices inside someone's mind, but by far the mixing is a lot better than all the songs. To support the voices, you have an atmosphere sound played by a synthesizer.

PALIMPSEST have written and release a very weird and creepy EP with small songs. The vocals are good and they reminded me of George Fischer. The drums were well played and written as well. But the mixing quality and the guitar playing is ridiculously bad. You can't hear a note and it is all noisy and boring.
