People usually think that the different approach created to the new outfit of Black Metal between the late years of the 80's and early days of 90's is over. It's obvious that the boiling cauldron of ideas created during the Second Wave of Black Metal cooled as time passed by and the number of bands increased, but the tools and ideas are still here. And from Denmark comes the trio ORM, and they're back with their third album, "Intet • Altet". Their efforts rest under the old formula of what is labeled by many as 'Melodic Black Metal', in a form that's extremely near of what was done during the 90's (in the vein of bands as EMPEROR, SATYRICON, ANCIENT, DIMMU BORGIR and others on their early releases), but plenty of some different elements and some updates, and even some experimental moments (as the clean parts with clean guitars heard on "Fra Dyden") and excellent atmospheric ambiences. The formula is old, but in the hands of the band it gains a personal and new life, with that catching funereal energy mixed with caustic aggressive moments. And it's not easy to resist to their musical appeal. Maybe one of the keys of their successful approach resides on the works of Simon Sonne Andersen (producer) and Frederik Brandt Jakobsen (mastering), because the whole conception used on the sonority of "Intet • Altet" resides on a simple formula: the crude and nasty elements of the past are built with a modern and defined approach, allowing the band to be understood clearly.

To those who are into the genre, "Intet • Altet" is a delightful release, and its lyrics depicts all the stages of life (each song, one stage, but you can find the right details on the band's Bandcamp page). It's obvious that in a time when people move fast between moments, the songs of the band are hard to deal due their long duration, but for those that are longing for something different from the usual on Black Metal, to experience what's offered on "Fra Dyden" (a song full of contrasts between introspective moments and aggressive parts, based on very good guitar riffs and arrangements), "Floden, Som Kan Skabe" (that uses a more aggressive insight that is a clear inheritance of Melodic Black Metal of the 90's, but the rhythmic shifts created by bass guitar and drums are really great), "Trance / Floden, Som Nan Lede" (an introspective and experimental song, with some Progressive/Avant-garde moments), and "Mod Døden" (another song with and Old School Black Metal outfit, with very good shrieks and snarls contrasting in many moments) can't be denied. So accept and enjoy it.

ORM really is a surprising name to taste, so if you don't know their work, "Intet • Altet" is a fine opportunity to learn it.
