Oak - Disintegrate album cover

From their EPK, "The story to "Disintegrate" is as aptly as it's music. The burden and liberation of the Giant, through music and lyrics. "Suddenly, a giant could be heard walking slowly with the weight of the world on his back." This new narrative is about the liberation of the giant, which after the end of its cycle, will melt under the sun, while its soul leaves its body and floats, glimpsing the present and remembering the past in a few moments. Carrying the weight of the world, is the perfect representation of OAK's music; hurtful, meaningful, helplessness and unearthing. It's not surprising the album was recorded as one long story that needed to be told without a single interruption."

The album has one lone song, the title track. It's close to forty-five minutes in length. Depressing, clean guitars open the song, leading to a charge of guttural death vocals and equally depressing distorted guitars. It waxes and wanes between the two styles for several minutes after. As it continues, it becomes more worrisome, and weary. Just when you think that you'd had enough, it dies at the half-way mark. Quite but tense tones follow for a few minutes. It hardens from there, with deeper vocals, and an expansive sound. Double bass drums kick in as the sound grows darker. The song slows again, signifying a prolonged death from tortured hands. The longer the sound lasts the more horrid it gets, but the baseline for the song is fairly unilateral.

The themes were reflected in the songs, but in the end, it just didn't excite me as much as I had hoped. Some people think Doom Metal and excitement are contradictory words, but I have heard plenty of Doom Metal that has sunk deep into my soul. This was good, but could have been better, with a little more variation, and perhaps some different instruments to carry the sound.
