NORKH is a Black Metal band from Germany and even though the band isn't that old, they already have some solid releases in their career. They have recently released their newest album "Tides Of Acid Piles Of Dirt" and that's what we are going to talk about.
The opening song is "Creatures Of Soil" and it starts out with some narration and then the aggressiveness of Black Metal hits you in, but they have a lot of groove riffs on their music and I believe that's a different way to play this style, which I find cool. "State Of Surveillance" starts out with a kind of Punk vibe and there's a great guitar riff. Soon the instrumental is completed by the guttural high vocals and it fits perfectly. There's a different part where it's a little bit calmer and the vocals almost sounds like clean, which is really cool.
"Fire Firmament" starts out with a great Death Metal riff and a really good drum and bass sound. I liked how the vocals duet between each other, as there's a guttural singing high and a guttural singing in low. It created a great ambiance for the song and it sounds really cool. Finally, we have some blast-beats and a more traditional way of Black Metal and some cool clean vocals as well. "Plague Moon" starts out showing all of the influences that this band seems to have. There's a Punk, Black Metal and Death Metal vibe on it and it sounds really natural for the band to play. We have a guitar solo which surprised me in a good way as it creates a whole new dynamic for the song and feels like a wind in the heat.
"Silicon Plastic Glass" starts out with great guitar riffs, bass and drums, but it also feels aggressive and hateful. It's an inspiring song and I liked how it sounded. "Patriotic Horde" has some nice vibe and it's a really groovy song. "Circles Of Serpents" starts out with a Thrash Metal guitar riff and it totally sounds like that. By far its probably the most different song and it sounds as good as the previous ones. There's a calmer part where it turns out into a complete Black Metal riff session with everything you can ask from it. "Black Dreams" is the song that closes the album and it starts out with a Punk vibe mixed up with aggressive low guttural vocals. This song has a great drum lines and it shows everything you can find in this band.
NORKH has written and released a good Black Metal album that mix up with Thrash Metal, Death Metal and Punk in a very natural way, without sounding forced or built up. I must say that it sounds different from most bands from the genre that I have ever listen to, but it's great.
