Windseller
Nôidva

Since Finnish Black Metal evolved from the putrid seed saw by BEHERIT and IMPALED NAZARENE, many bands built what is the genre is, and all its musical diversity. There are bands with a melodic approach, and other prefers to keep their feet on the solid ground of the roots of Black Metal. And NÔIDVA, a young name of the Finnish scene, comes storming with "Windseller".
Their musical work is based on an old school harsh and brutal form of Black Metal from the 90's, but using some nasty and funereal melodies (especially on guitars, what can be heard clearly on some parts of "Followers of the North Star"). It's bitter and can smash your spine, but it hooks a lot the listener by the ears. And it's personal and created with a raw and unstoppable energy. The sound quality of "Windseller" was created to be crude and bear an ambiance that could bring back the feeling of the 90's, and the band got it. The music sounds clear and understandable, but with those raw instrumental tunes of the past, creating something organic and bitter.
There are five songs (because "Häilän Joiku" is a kind of interlude), all of them being excellent, but the bitter and funereal melodic ambiance of "Followers of the North Star" (those nasty and catchy melodies can be heard here on the guitars) and "Into Polar Nights", the mix between Folk touches and darkened melodies heard on "Eclipsed by Goahti's Blood" (the simple technical approach on bass guitar and drums is a very good feature of this song), and the traditional Black Metal essence of "Vindictive Old Ones" (very good screamed voices and keyboards) are the best of this release.
"Windseller" is a fresh blow of the old winds of the past, but with the feet standing in the present. And NÔIDVA seems to be a new great name from Finnish Black Metal!
