Nifrost - Blykrone album cover

NIFROST is a Norwegian Pagan Black Metal band that knows how to write this kind of music. They have recently released their newest album "Blykrone" and that's what we are going to talk about.

"Prosesjon" is the opening song from the album and it starts out with a cool accordion sound that creates a different ambiance from the others songs. "Blykrone" starts out with a drum sound that is soon followed by the traditional Black Metal riffs. The clean vocals hits in and it sounds really good, but I liked how the mixed up the clean with the guttural ones. It gave the song a whole new dynamics and that's cool. "Slaatten" starts out in a more aggressive way from the previous song and it feels more Black Metal. It has a lot of guttural vocals, blast-beats and dark guitar riffs. There's some groovy riffs on this song as well and the vocals sounds a little bit desperate sometimes. "Arr" is an instrumental song.

"Tvilhalden" starts out with good guitar riff that is a little bit groovy and there's some guttural vocals as well. There's some cool clean vocals on this one and they sound really dark. "Varden" starts out with a great guitar riff that is probably one of the best in the whole album. It reminded me of IMMORTAL. They have mixed the clean vocals that sounds like a Viking chorus and the guttural ones. There's also a nice narration. "Daudsvon" starts out with a tense sound and it's a really aggressive song. "Gamling" is a different song and its really heavy. They were really angry playing this and the bass and drums sounds heavy. There's a great guitar riff here as well and it's a really different song. I liked how they have managed to mix up heavy melodies with some different guitar riffs.

"Kongestol" starts out with a sound that reminded me of those sirens that you could hear on Chernobyl series. It has a different ambiance and the clean vocals made a good spot here. Its good when they mix the clean vocals with the guttural vocals. The songs gain more dynamics and creates a good ambiance. "Klander" starts out in a really fast way with aggressive riffs, blast-beats and a heavy bass sound. This song has a lot of different ambiances and riffs, but there's a really good part where an organ sounds and it created a whole different dynamics and ambiance to the song.

NIFROST has written and released a great album with a lot of different ambiance and riffs. The songs were well written, the instruments were well executed and the production is tight. They know how to write Black Metal.
