There are different ways of playing Melodic Death Metal. There are bands that prefer to use more melodies and putting aggressiveness in low levels; on the other side, there are those who just use melodies to give an embodiment for their music, being brutal and aggressive as traditional Death Metal bands. And NEUROTIC MACHINERY, from Czechia, uses the second approach on "Nocturnal Misery", the sextet's latest release. They could be said as a Progressive Death Metal as well, due the use of a very good technical insight, where influences from Post-Metal can be heard as well. But as written above, their music is brutal and technical at the same time, creating something personal and full of energy. Yes, it's pretty good, indeed.

Seabeast did the mixing and mastering of "Nocturnal Misery", and the result is something that is aggressive and brutal, but that allows the band to be understood and its melodic parts can be expressed as well. It could be better in the view of the instrumental tunes, but it's very good, indeed. "Nocturnal" starts the album brutal and fast, allowing their energy to flow into the listener's ears (and what a very good work on bass guitar and drums); "Oblivion" is well-worked and arranged, with charming guitars, and the same can be heard on "Uprising" as well. On "Beneath the Sun", some slow parts are amazing, where is shown some influences from Groove Metal and very good vocals; and "Universe" shows technical parts in the middle of Progressive Rock elements in between brutal moments.

NEUROTIC MACHINERY has a very good musical work, indeed. And as long as they evolve, Czechia will be small for them. Listen to "Nocturnal Misery" and find out for yourself if what I said is true.
