Nuclear Waste 1985-1993
Natas
This reissue of this North American Crossover/Thrash Metal/Hardcore act is truly very good.

During the 80s, many bands were trying to find their own ways in the boiling cauldron of creativity of those days, before the canons of Metal genres happened, but many of their musical efforts became hidden under the power of major labels entering the scenario and changing its rules. Everyone knows that METALLICA, SLAYER, MEGADETH, ANTHRAX, OVERKILL, TESTAMENT and some others gained commercial praise in the 80s and earned conditions to survive the hardships of the 90s. One of these names is of the North American trio NATAS (A.K.A. NOT-US as well), and the compilation "Nuclear Waste 1985-1993" (originally released with the name "Deathcore 1985-1993") is a fine opportunity to know the band's music.
The sonority of the songs is the original, or in other words, no new mix was done, just a remastering at Angry Man Productions, February 2012. It means that a new shine appears on the songs, but keeping things as original as possible; but it keeps the original charm and appeal, and it's enough. The artwork shows many old photos, flyers and posters, and bears liner notes written by Mark (from IMPETIGO). The trio worked covering a wide range of genres, from Crossover/Thrash Metal to Hardcore Punk, from Thrash Metal to early Death Metal, all in the natural ways of North American trenches of such genres. In the end of all, when hearing things, the fan will deal with a release that shows a band with energy and weight, with a clear charming appeal that deserves to be heard out loud.
This compilation brings songs from the only full-length the trio released, 1989's "Think What You Want" ("Brainwashed", "Whore", "Dare to Be Different", "Think What You Want", "Set Us Free", "Hostile Intent", "Contribute", "Outcasts of Society" and "Fight Back", where Crossover/Thrash Metal and Death Metal influences are clearly heard), 1989's Demo Tape "No One Gets Out Alive" ("Poor-n-Proud", "Czar War", "Ask Me If I Care", "I Got a Job", "Nothing Left to Say", their version for DISCHARGE's "Drunk with Power", "Guinea Pig", "Disposable", "Underwitten Pioneer", "Reversed Roles", "Punks Not a Fad", "Nuclear Waste" and "Strength in Numbers", with a clear turn to North American Hardcore), 1985's Demo Tape "Outcast of Society" ("Whore", "Defy Death", "Slither and Redeem", "Strength in Numbers", "Flames of Darkness", "Outcast of Society" and "Faster or Death", being a bit more between North American Hardcore and Death Metal), and the 1990's Split "Wild Rags Limited Edition" (from where comes "Maggie", "Second Childhood", "Dinner in a Glass" and "Froggy", where the band was really in a Crossover/Hardcore format). This set really shows a band that could be as legendary as D.R.I. and C.O.C. on 80s North American Crossover/Hardcore if they had the chance and lucky they deserved.
Unfortunately, NATAS is resting in peace since 1993 (the peak of Alternative Rock age on USA that caused hardships to many bands), so the best to be done is to listen to "Nuclear Waste 1985-1993" and enjoy their music.
