Event Horizon

Mouth of Madness

This release will surely be a 'must-have' item for Black/Thrash Metalk maniacs.

Extreme Metal genres have a long tradition in Germany, since the days SODOM, KREATOR and DESTRUCTION were starting their careers and exploding amps with their music. But even after they matured, their musical works in their early days influenced many new names throughout the world, and even on their own country. A proof of that is what is shown on “Event Horizon”, the first full-length of the duet MOUTH OF MADNESS. Marko Bieniek (the band’s drummer) worked on the recordings (guitars, bass, vocals), mixing and mastering, while Alexander Pusch did the recordings of the drums. The sonority has an aggressive outfit, with a touch of Old School Black/Thrash Metal on it, but being defined and understandable. And what an interesting graphic work of Florian Exner (the band’s guitarist) on the artwork and Kati Störch on the layout.

Their musical work relies on a form of Old School Thrash/Black Metal with an updated shape, with clear influences of SODOM and KREATOR on their prime, but with many personal features being shown along with the natural clichés of the genre. It’s aggressive and full of energy, but filled with fine instrumental arrangements. “Transhimalaja + Part I”, “Transhimalaja + Part II” and “Transhimalaja + Part III” are just climatic instrumental tracks based on keyboards, leaving the bone-crushing work to “Sex and Thanatos”, “Year of the Dog”, “At the Heart of the Unknown”, “Worms” (where some guitars are played by Florian Reichelt), “Fireborn” and “Masaan” (with the violin intro being played by Franziska Mende), with very good efforts. It’s clear that they need to sharpen their musical works in a better way in the future, but they’re pretty good, indeed.

For now, “Event Horizon” is a very good release and shows that MOUTH OF MADNESS is really a promising name. By the way: Event Horizon in Astrophysics is the boundary of black holes from where nothing can escape.
