One feature that is extremely common to see when Metal and Rock become stagnated is the experimentism. The more you see of it into both musical genres is a sign that things are going to change soon or later. That's a fact, and history witnessed it countless time before our actual days. And the North American quartet MOLLO RILLA is one of them, because "Mollo Rilla" is an album full of experimental touches and surprises.

They have a Stoner Rock outfit mixed with Groove Metal, influences from Punk Rock, Gothic Rock and even some bits from musical genres out of Rock borders. Yes, they're trying and creating something different, but it's personal, and solid and charming, because the hooks on their songs are great. And one more: their melodies are easy to understand, even in the middle of this salad of musical genres. Yes, they're a very good act. The sound quality was done looking for something that could sound clear and defined, but with a clear vocation to sound raw and organic (due the choice for instrumental tunes). But be prepared for an overdose of weight and aggressiveness of their part as well.

Their musical work is not hard to understand or to be liked. And the songs of "Mollo Rilla" are very good. But the ferocious weight of "Ego" (a nasty song done with sharp guitars and very good keyboards parts) and "Nightmare" (this one is filled with fine contrasts of aggressive guitars and melodic voices), the accessible salad called "Holy Water" (very good work from bass guitar and drums), the slow rhythm of "In Dreams" (imagine a mix of Progressive Rock psychedelic elements with some Folk Rock touches and even Oriental melodies in some parts, what put vocals and keyboards in evidence), the melodic Down Rock with a noir ambiance presented on "Gabriel", the frantic melodies of "Anthem" (one of the most accessible songs of the album, and maybe the most simple of all), the noisy musical accessibility of "Pyramids", and the heavy minimalism heard on "Odyssey" are the best moments of the album. But the others are as good as these ones.

MOLLO RILLA is really a surprise, and I hope as evolution takes its toll, the following album can be great as "Mollo Rilla". Or better, who knows?
