MALLET is a classical Rock N' Roll band from Germany that completed 40th years of career in 2019 and to celebrate their huge career, these dinosaurs of Rock released their newest album "Rock N' Roll Heroes" and thats what we are going to talk about.
The opening song from the album is "Lonely Without You" and it starts out with a cool groove guitar riff and the vocals hits in almost as soon as it starts. The chorus is really catchy and I'm already singing it with all my lungs. "Like A Devil" shows a completely different song, but it still feels like the same band, which is good. This song has a lot of grooves and the bass work here is incredible good and fun. It seens to be the lead of the song and I liked how the vocals sounds here and the guitar solo as well. ,
"Rock 'N' Roll Hero" is kinda the title track of the album and it starts out with a good drum and some heavy guitar riffs. There's something really Hard Rock here, it reminded me the 80's kind of vibe. "Time For Your Life" is the first ballad on the album and it has beautiful ambiance and instrumental. The vocals sounds different and without the drive from the previous songs. The chorus is good and its just like the calm song that you wanna listen while riding your car, motorcycle or on a lonely night.
"Eighties Coming Back" is what the name means. There's an 80's vibe and I have nothing much to say about this song. The solo is great, just listen to it. "King Kong" has this great groove again. Its a funny song and you will start to dance to it. It kinda reminded me of RISE AGAINST THE MACHINE... maybe its because of the vocal lines from the stanzas that sounds a little bit "rap".
"Don't Cry Anymore" is another ballad, but it feels happier than the first one. There are great melodies here and the chorus is great... but the highlight goes to the guitar solo and the chorus. Just enjoy and have a drink. "The Ocean" has a beautiful guitar sound and percussion as well. Its a simple song, but beautiful and really good to listen to.
"The Ravenant" is all about Rock N' Roll and it starts with the classical Rock drumming and some cool guitar riffs. Its a fast song and I'm pretty sure will bang your head and dance. It reminded me a little bit of the country music from the USA or the old Rock N' Roll bands from that part of world.
"Machine Man" has a cool bass groove and drumming as well. The guitar solo completes the ectasy and creates the perfect vibe. Its a nice song. "Guardian Angel" has a nice Hard Rock guita riff and a heavy bass sound. This song sounds different from the previous ones, specially when it comes to the chorus. The guitar here was a virtuous one and I liked it.
"Just You And I" is another ballad and differ from the other two as well. I liked how they could write different ballads on the same record and still sound good. This is a good one. "Sweet Little Mantis" starts out with some percussion and then some bass and guitar hits you in, but its different, groovy and I liked it. The song keeps going on the same groovy vibe and guitar solo here is pure madness. I really liked the vibe from that song.
"I Don't Know" is the song that closes the album and it starts out with a nice guitar riff, cool vocals and backing vocals as well. It was a good song to end the album, they showed a lot of different influences here.
MALLET has written and released a great Rock N' Roll album with a lot of different influences. At first I thought "wow, fourteen songs on an album... man, it might be hard to listen to" but as soon as it started, I was enjoying it a lot. There are a lot of songs, but none of them sounds the same and there are always something to surprise you. The instruments were really well executed, the production was tight and the vocals were good as well. Yeah, they did it!
