From their EPK, "Nachtzeit has since made a name for himself with his masterful use of musical minimalism: slow, heavily textured, and keyboard-laden dirges driven forward by monotonous percussion, occasionally broken up by swarms of guitar distortion. The doomy and droning riffs are repeated at length. These elements have hitherto been embedded in a stripped-down, pale, lo-fi, and reverb-drenched production. And this is where "A Thirst for Summer Rain" - which, coincidentally, is about hope, faith, and inspiration during dark times - deviates from the classic formula, marking what can only be seen as a new chapter. The album contains four songs.

"Quiescence" is the first. Out of the gates, the opening bells/keys are quite pretty and charming. The powerful opening riff sustains this feeling. It's a simple few notes within the melody, but it's still quite effective. The vocals are raging and desolate, but do not cut through the feelings of hope. They remind me of a simpler UNREQVITED. "Faith" is a song of equal length. More of those bells/keys open the song, with another mild but competent result. The guitar chords ring out with majesty, while the keys play smooth and easy underneath. Hope from a Black Metal band? You are undoubtedly hearing it so far. The sound drops to a minimized version of the main melody around the half-way mark, and slowly fades away.

"Thirst" is another pretty offering with a minimum of notes. It's interesting how so few notes can carry so much melody. They just have to be in the right places, and done with proper pacing. Although this is another beautiful song that fills you with warmth, it sounds too close to the other two. Again comes the short but harsh Black Metal vocals for just a few bars. "Alleviation" is the final song. Again, a simple melody from keys opens the song, and I am just a bit disappointed that all four songs are very similar in length and sound. I love the sound, but it can get repetitive through four of them. Throw in some surprises...they could really help to change things up a bit. His sense of melody is strong, but he just needs some more inspiration to take his sound to new heights.
