Twilight Insurgency
Lunar Blood

The limits of a Metal subgenre aren't defined to be something that inhibits the experiences to make things different than usual. Maybe this fact is a manifestation of Darwin's theories, because things can't be eternally stopped in time. And the North American quintet LUNAR BLOOD (from New Jersey) seems to be looking for such things as can be heard on their first album, "Twilight Insurgency".
They're another band that started during 2020, the year when the COVID-19 became a pandemic, so their opportunities to play live shows were none. And their music can be said as a form of traditional USA Death Metal with some little touches of Black Metal. The description isn't totally fair, because words aren't enough to describe music, so imagine a mix of influences between CANNIBAL CORPSE, NAPALM DEATH, DEFECATION, TERRORIZER, POSSESSED and DEATH, and you'll be near of what these guys are delivering on their music. But one thing must be clear to the readers: they have a strong personality pulsing on their musical work, and what amazing energy flows from this album. The band worked on studio with Scot Moriarty (who did the recording and mixing), and Brad Boatright (who did the mastering), and the sonority is really abrasive and aggressive, keeping the brutal approach of the genre, but allowing their songs to be expressed in a form that anyone can understand. It's a good work, indeed.
Even in such early age, the band's potential is clear to anyone, so what is delivered on "Purified Rot" (a fast song, so be prepared by a storm of brutality imposed by the guitars), "The Hammer" (the playing of bass guitar and drums is near of Grindcore acts in some moments, so be prepared for a catchy energy), "Gastrointestinal Industrial Complex" (this one is filled with Hardcore influences due many hooks, and what amazing guitars once more), "Parliament of Trees" (there are oppressive slow parts that allows the band's guttural grunts to be clear for the fans), "Gnawed" (the bitter ambience created by such slow tempos is impressive, even when the drums start with light speed playing in some moments), and "Pig Hunter" is something that really imposes a grasp on the fans.
Of course, LUNAR BLOOD still has a way to go. But "Twilight Insurgency" shows that they're on the right path.
