LORDI, as most of you know, won the Eurovision song contest in Athens 2006. Although they exist since 1996, they released their first album Get Heavy in 2002, which went up to No.3 in the Finnish charts. Since Eurovision (or maybe not?), their publicity climbed levels up, as they became known to the American crowd and played at Ozzfest (America) in 2007.
Two years since the release of their last album, The Arockalypse, LORDI are back with their fourth studio album, Deadache. The first impression that you get is that it is a powerful hard melodic album, in the way that LORDI have accustomed us. Do not try to analyse the tracks to great extent, won't work. Here we have to do mostly with tracks with strong riffs, nice solos such as in Bite It Like A Bulldog (which went to No.1 in the Finnish charts), Dr. Sin Is In, Man Skin Boots, Monsters Keep Me Company and Heaven In Hell. The Rebirth Of The Countess, is dark and atmospheric but it gives the impression of a 'filling the gap' track, Evilyn, which as well has a slower tempo, is one of the best songs of this album, followed by the faster and heavy Heaven In Hell. Deadache and Missing Miss Charlene bring to memory a lot of LAKE OF TEARS from the Crimson Cosmos album. The Devil Behind Her Smile (my favourite track of the album), together with Missing Miss Charlene, wrap up the album leaving you with a satisfactory opinion.
The digipack version of the Deadache CD includes an extra track, Hate At First Sight, played in the same motive as the rest of the album tracks. It's worth mentioning that LORDI had to choose 14 songs out of 60 and except the bonus track of the digipack version there are three more bonus tracks which were added in three different versions (Japanese, Finnish and iTunes).
Very good production, though the vocals of Mr. Lordi sound a bit changed in some parts. Cannot tell if this is on purpose or not, but whatever from both is, it is anyway a bad idea. In general the album is exactly what is expected from LORDI. It seems that they have found their formula, a mixture of melodic and hard sound, with a dose of heavy riffs, a dash of industrial elements, spooky feeling with a 'let's sing altogether in the chorus' style, all wrapped in a happy version.
