Some sonorities linked to Metal have deeper roots in Hard Rock, Acid, Rock, Blues Rock and other genres before NWOBHM (when a formal canonization happened to say what is the genre and what isn’t). But every band is free to drink its influences from the time they want, or even mix things, and it’s precisely what the Swedish trio LOMMI preaches on “667788”, their latest release. The production was done by the trio, with Svein Jensen working on the mixing and Johan Reivén on the mastering. The idea was to have something with an organic-like taste with a massive weight, but of course sounding defined and understandable. Such idea was achieved, because it’s how “667788” sounds. And the artwork of Niklas Sundin brings something that - in a subjective sense - fits on what the band plays.

Full of groove and weight, spewing heavy guitar riffs and strong rhythms, it can be classified and a Metal form of acts as MELVINS, MONSTER MAGNET and SOUNDGARDEN, but exposing themselves. The trio’s music is filled with amazing and fresh energy, with a strong melodic appeal, but still aggressive and ferocious. And a wonderful feature: even with one foot standing on the past (due its influences), the trio works on a fresh way, what means that there’s no need to try to be ‘a band of the past’, what they aren’t.

On the 8 songs of “667788”, it’s shown that the trio is one of the best Swedish names on this trench. And “Sayonara”, “Down”, “Blood Moon”, “Rather”, “Children”, “Electric”, “Wish” and “Fight” are charming proofs of such words, again: excellent vocals, sharp and charming guitar riffs with heavy groove-driven bass and drums playing are the elements combined by the trio in the form of a very tasteful music. After these words, to listen to “667788” is something that you must do. And LOOMI is really a very good band to be heard!
