Little Villains - Philthy Lies album cover

In 2006, Motörhead drummer Phil Taylor and guitarist James Childs of Avon and Airbus formed LITTLE VILLAINS. LITTLE VILLAINS play hard and heavy rock n' roll. The band signed to Heavy Psych Sounds Records after deciding it was time to express their music to the masses after facing personal obstacles and circumstances. After Phil Taylor's death in 2015, the band recruited Airbusdrummer Chris Fielden to continue the band's legacy.

On March 29th of 2019, the band's first album "Philthy Lies" was released, despite being active for years prior to its release. The band features a heavy and hard rock n' roll sound, with fast pace beats and riffs that give you that Motörhead feel. I thought this was an interesting album, and interesting to find out that Phil Taylor was originally a member and founder of the group. I had no idea this group existed. This album would be a great hit for the older generation and original heavy metal/hard rock fans. It has a very classic sound to it, with an old school and raw production sound that makes it sound like it could've been released decades before 2019, which I love.

If you were to watch this band live, I feel like they would sound exactly like this studio album. It's so raw sounding that it almost sounds like they didn't do much mixing, but it all sounds great. Each song has great lead guitars, and speedy rhythms. There are a few songs that a pretty short, and others that are quite repetitive, but it doesn't really take away too much from the enjoyment of the album. A few songs I really liked on this album were "Attack", "Traitor" which are fast pace and in your face tunes and "Got To Grips" which is a little slower and softer.

If you were or are a fan of Motörhead, I'd totally check "LITTLE VILLAINS" out. I don't think this is an album that a lot of the new wave metal listeners would appreciate. I grew up with the new wave music, and still discover new bands coming out every day, but I really respect bands that write old school hard rock. It's tough to stay consistent with this style these days with fans of that kind of music getting older and dying off, and Metal has evolved and changed so much. I don't mean that in a rude way, by any means. Like I said, I really respect this band's sound and it was enjoyable to listen to, and I'd totally watch a live performance.
