It's undeniable that RAMMSTEIN have become one of Germany's most famous bands, spearheaded by the notorious Till Lindemann. And an undoubtable genius in the metal scene is the almighty Peter Tägtgren, a multi-instrumentalist most commonly known for his excellent studio production work, as well as for his role in HYPOCRISY. And as unlikely as such a match-up seems, these two leviathans of the metal world have combined to form the super-group LINDEMANN. With Tägtgren's Industrial inclinations already coming to the fore in his project PAIN, it is perhaps not so surprising that this duo have fully embraced this Industrial vein in their new venture, having released their debut full-length album "Skills in Pills" this June.

This album comprises one driving and hard-hitting song after the next, with each song picking up where the previous one left off. The drums provide a militant, dynamic and pounding backbone to the music, whilst the synths add more melodic textures to the tapestry, and the guitars provide a counterpoint to both of these elements, sometimes supporting one or the other. The instrumental aspects of this album are exceptionally good, with each note being near on perfect; then again, with Tägtgren being behind this, I would expect nothing less. The vocals are pure archetypal Till Lindemann through and through, with the infectious baritone dripping offense and sickness with every word. It does nevertheless add an curious facet to hear him do a complete album in English though. On the one hand, the lyrics seem simple to the point of being banal and asinine, but on the flip side, Lindemann manages to portray vulgar sexual depravity in its most twisted and provoking light. Nevertheless, some of course will be quick to cry out that this is tantamount to an easy selling gimmick, and this is a valid point. However, this is also part of the appeal. Honestly, could you imagine Lindemann's lyrics being anything other than shocking and ludicrous? And one thing that must be said for the lyrics, if taken with a pinch of humour and as irony, then the content will indisputably have you chuckling in quite a few places. Furthermore, the inclusion of Clemens Wijers from CARACH ANGREN on the final song "That's my Heart" does add a myriad of new aspects to the more epic and melancholic soundscapes woven by the majestic orchestral arrangements, bringing the album to life even more.

And of course the production is just as perfect as you would expect from such a monstrous lineup. This is one of those albums which is likely to garner absolutely polar opinions: you will either love it or absolutely detest and despise it. With an open mind however, it definitely is a fun and entertaining listen. Definitely worth checking out if you know not to take your music too seriously!
