Limbonic Art - Phantasmagoria album cover

The pioneers of majestic Black Metal LIMBONIC ART are back, three years after their 2007 comeback. I know that "Phantasmagoria" is out for about a month in the stores, but I was not sure about what to write about it. And since LIMBONIC ART is not a band that needs any introductions, I will go directly to what this album has to say. The only thing that I have to mention is that Morfeus is no longer a part of the band. So Daemon is the only one behind the band, doing everything by himself.

Don't you even wait for new stuff here. Don't you dare to think that LIMBONIC ART has changed their style. The only different thing that I can listen to is that Daemon's music, now that he is writing everything alone, is more stripped down and closer to the roots of Black Metal. Not that the keyboards and the majestic atmosphere is not present. And after the unbalanced first track, since the slow part in the middle feels like it cuts the song in two, you will get the idea since the following four numbers are the ones that every fan of LIMBONIC ART will like, especially "Dark Winds". As for the production, as in every album of this band, it is perfect. Clear enough so you can listen everything, but not polished. It has just that muddy feeling that a Black Metal production needs. The downsides of the album are mainly two. Firstly I think that as the album proceeds, and especially after the middle of the tracklist, it is getting a bit flat. What I mean by that is that for my ears all the good songs and ideas are in the first middle of the album. Secondly, the drum machine may not have that plastic-fake sound like in other releases from other bands, but I would like to listen to real drums.

As a conclusion, "Phantasmagoria" is not a bad album. OK, it may not going to be a second "Moon In The Scorpio" or a "Ad Noctum Dynasty of Death" but it is more than a decent majestic Black Metal CD. Rawer than someone might thought that this album would be, but still you will find the typical atmosphere that LIMBONIC ART have in their albums.
