The Subjugate
Light Dweller

Once again: when you read a genre’s label on a review, don’t be deceived, because music can’t be explained by few words. The best to do is: to read the review and try the release by your own, because you can be ignoring a release that you’re looking for due the power of written words. And “The Subjugate”, of the North American one men band LIGHT DWELLER depicts as words aren’t enough. The band’s music can be roughly be described as an ample and eclectic form of Death/Black Metal, with many Jazz-like and Progressive Rock-like parts and elements, sometimes using an extreme technical approach and insane contrasts. And the energy unleashed on the songs is tempered by charming keyboards’ ambiences.
It can be said as brutal and vicious as CANNIBAL CORPSE and IMMOLATION, but with experimental approach similar to BLOOD INCANTATION and CATTLE DECAPITATION, filled with experiments that boost things up in a different way. It’s insane and very good, indeed. The sonority isn’t fitting on band’s music 100%, because the tunes used on the drums aren’t as good as they could be (it’s like a programmed drum machine sometimes), and the music is so great to such sonority. On the other hand, the visual aspect worked by Adam Burke (cover art) and STRXart (layout) is excellent. Again: words aren’t enough to describe everything that is shown on “Echoes from the Spectral Void”, “Cessation of Time”, “Fracturing Light”, “The Subjugate”, “Phasing Through the Veil” and “Adrift the Expanding Nothingness”, because the different elements take things to extremes that are hard to explain. But everything is truly amazing, something that deserves to be heard and enjoyed by every extreme Metal fan.
For the new comers, it becomes obvious that LIGHT DWELLER shows on “The Subjugate” a lot of potential. And for those into experimental ways in extreme Metal tendencies, this release is a “must-have’ item.
