Y2Black?
Lethal Fear
Brazil is a very fertile country for Metal bands, for we can hear always some fine bands from there, and from all Metal styles, from extreme Metal to more melodic ones, and even Hard Rock and A.O.R. And now, it's time for LETHAL FEAR, from the city of Amparo, in São Paulo, come with their new album, "Y2Black?".
The band plays a melodic and elegant form of traditional Heavy Metal with some modern touches, always heavy and with very good musical work, mixing good and melodic vocals, sharp and heavy guitar riffs (and melodic solos), bass and drums forming a strong and heavy rhythmic basis, with good technique. It's nothing really new, but done with heart and energy.
A good and organic sound production was done by the band along with Renato Napty, giving weight and shaping the band's music, with all instruments clean and heavy as they must be. It could be a little better (just a little), but it's fine the way it is now.
The artwork is astonishing, done by Rodrigo Bortolleto and Mario Cau, with illustrations that remind something from artists like Frank Miller and Hiroaki Samura (the author from "Blade of the Immortal", a Japanese manga that made success in the occident). It's in HQ style, so the fans will have some heart attacks.
Before we speak more about their musical work, this writer must say that the band is not doing a simplistic work, being as heavy as melodic, having their greater moments in "Burning Wings" (a fantastic song, with very good riffs, rhythmic basis giving a show, and good vocals, especially in the chorus, that is very hooky), the elegant and mid tempo "Time (Out of my Grasp)", the aggressive "Blade of the Immortal" (with good vocals and great arrangements in the guitars), the instrumental "Killing Fields", and "Path of Consequences (Mephisto Part II)". But there's a present for Metal maniacs: the personal version for JUDAS PRIEST's "Blood Red Skies".
Applauses will occur when you reach the end of the CD, no doubt about that.
