Those of the Morbid

Leper Colony

These experienced musicians created a great Old School Death Metal release!
May 29, 2025

After the expansion and fragmentation of Metal genres (what means a Metal genre that was one now become many subgenres), in the second half of the 90s the Old School movement appeared. It came as a ‘resistance’ to new Metal forms (besides some guys just want to play old models without caring for such thing), and today the Old School forms are praised in the same way that modern ones are. And for those addicted on Old School Death Metal, “Those of the Morbid”, the second full-length of LEPER COLONY will be a delight. In some sense, the band seems a project with members with names as JOHANSSON & SPECKMANN, PAGANIZER, METAL AGAINST CORONAVIRUS, MASSACRE, ASINHELL, MORGOTH and many others in their curriculums.

It means that they experienced musicians on Death Metal making a form of traditional Death Metal in the ways of the genre between 1989 and 1993. It sounds classic, but full of energy and life as well, so it means that Death Metal fans will love it for sure. Håkan Stuvemark (the band’s lead guitarist) worked on the mixing and mastering, with Rogga Johansson (who plays bass guitar and rhythmic guitar on the band) took over the recordings of the instruments, and Marc Wüstenhagen did the same for the vocals. Besides it’s an Old School Death Metal release, the band chose something defined and clean to express its musical ideas (but with rough instrumental tunes). Felipe Mora (artwork) and Thomas Strater (layout) did a fine work on the graphic presentation of the album. As guest, here is Oliver Recker playing mouth harp on “Creature from the Deep”.

“Facing the Faceless”, “Master’s Voice”, “The Age of Insanity”, “Flesh to Rot to Ashes”, “Realm of Madness”, “Those of the Morbid Inclination”, “Apocalypse Whore”, “Creature from the Deep” and “A Story in Red” are tracked with compromise only with Old School Death Metal, with sharp and catching moments, sometimes fast, slower on the others, but always inspired and far from copying anyone. Taste it! “Those of the Morbid” is a fine release and a lesson of how playing Old School Death Metal without being a clone. But what could be expected from LEPER COLONY after all?
