II
Last in Line
In these days, it's an extreme easy thing to see bands gathering former colleagues once more. And LAST IN LINE was founded by three former members of DIO, with another former band member (the bassist and producer Jeff Pilson) being one of the masterminds behind this reunion. On 2016, one of them (the bassist Jimmy Bain) passed away and left the band's future uncertain. But here they are, back and releasing their second album, called simply "II".
Musically, there aren't differences from the musical work shown on "Heavy Crown" and "II": it's the same traditional Heavy Metal from the earlier years of the 80's with many Classic Rock/Hard Rock elements (especially the choruses). Their music is really strong and charming, with a sober instrumental technique from the band's members, but always with excellent melodic lines and fine vocals. Yes, it's nothing really different from what everyone already known on Metal, but how good this album sounds. Jeff Pilson was the producer of the album once more. And he did a great work, because everything on "II" sounds alive, fresh and heavy, and with a perfect balance between melodies, sound clarity and weight. And their set of instrumental tunes were chosen to be the nearer of something fresh and organic.
"II" can be said as an Old School album due its essence. And songs as the heavy and charming "Blackout the Sun" (with a strong and heavy work drums and on bass guitar that is played by former OZZY OSBOURNE bassist Phil Soussan), the hooking melodies of "Landslide" (very good guitars and wonderful vocals), the mix between modern and old elements heard on "Year of the Gun", the heavy and introspective harmonies of "Give Up the Ghost", the amazing energy of "Electrified", and the accessible and amazing "False Flag" will hook you up!
Surrender and let LAST IN LINE guide you to a musical voyage with "II".
