From their EPK, "How To Shroud Yourself With Night" was produced by Kristian 'Kohle' Kohlmannslehner at his Kohlekeller Studios in Seeheim and mastered by Tom Porcell at the Limetree Studios. The atmospheric, deep black cover artwork was designed by Indonesian artist Bahrull Marta and underlines the songs' dense atmosphere and great  depth of focus that supports the actual theme of the album: the desire to simply disappear, to be invisible and not have to deal with yourself and the outside world any more. Schmid: "Each song on this album deals with that theme. It's about shadows, about darkness and mystical objects which combine the unique power of "nothingness."" The album contains ten songs.

"Wall of Gloom" is the first. The music is dark, and depressive, and thick with backing elements. The vocals vary a bit from whispered to harsh mixed with cleans. "A Cloak of Woven Stars" has a more straightforward sound from an energetic riff. The vocals are tense and the key to much of the sound. They are longing in nature bit also powerful. The music is fairly melodic and the hooks are noteworthy. "Nebula" is a shorter song again thick with backing elements, both in the music and the vocals. The vocals help to build the song to a crescendo, and it's amazing how catchy this music actually is.

"The Curtain of White Silence" is a melancholic offering where the vocals are so emotive that you can barely get through the song without being moved. Take it in and let it slowly erode your innards. "Unseen" is a heavier offering that reminds me of the unbridled power of a band like AMORPHIS. The sound is weighted and commanding but not short on melody. "To Disappear in You" is a more raucous sound, but the band's use of melody here is noteworthy. This is how you make an album that is heavy and melodic at the same time. The vocals are varied, but when he does the cleans, I can see where HIM got their influence from. "An Invisible Beginning" is another super-catchy song that features some upbeat vocals and energetic riffing. He keeps talking about "the other side" in the lyrics, and you believe that he is actively working to get you there.

"Shroud of Night" closes the album. If you can't feel his anger or pain in this closing track, you might want to check your pulse, to make sure that you are still alive. He pours his heart and soul into this song. Not being familiar with this band, I was impressed with their sound. It's heavy enough for many Metal fans to connect with, but also quite melodic and catchy. Many of the songs are dark and emotive, which makes the more positive one's shine just a bit more. The key to the sound has to be Julien's vocals. The album is made by the things he can do with his voice.
