Kosmodemonic - Liminal Light album cover

Even the classic Doom Metal outfits suffered mutations as time passed by. The form laid by BLACK SABBATH early works, sharpened by names as TROUBLE, SAINT VITUS, CIRITH UNGOL, WITCHFINDER GENERAL and others is used by many bands today with different elements, creating new musical expressions inside the genre. And one band doing such a thing is the North American quartet KOSMODEMONIC, as can be heard on "Liminal Light", their latest release.

The New York based quartet takes the bitterness and crude form of the traditional Doom Metal approach and mixes with some grotesque Dark Metal touches (especially in the ambiences, and not on the vocals, as many could think), creating something morbid and aggressive, but still with slow paced tempos. Obviously, the sensation that says 'I heard it before somewhere' is strong but does not affect the final result: "Liminal Light" is a good release, indeed. The band had Sanford Parker working on the sound engineering (no information about the producer, the one who did the mix and the one who did the mastering of the album is available), but as the sonority tries to align the crude natural approach of Doom Metal with a modern and clean definition, everything sounds in a good way.

The band is really good, but the songs are pointing for a more expansive and better way in their future (as the quartet gains experience). For now, songs as "Drown in Drone" (a rusty and hard Doom Metal song with good guitars), "MOIRAI" (where the natural groove of the genre is in evidence, and that shows good work on bass guitar and drums), "With Majesty" (that is a bit faster, showing some elements of Black Metal on the riffs, but using clean vocals), "Lover of Leaving" (that shows some monolithic melodies, and a solid rhythm work), and "Unnaming Unlearning" (a blend with some Stoner Metal elements can be heard) do their part and shows a work that really deserves to be heard.

What KOSMODEMONIC offers on "Liminal Light" is good, but they must dare in their future works a bit more....talent for that they really have.
