K
King

In South American Metal Schools, one can have in mind that something ‘pure’ is hard, because the mixing of influences is extremely normal. Since the 80s, to mix Death Metal, Black Metal and Hardcore - and other genres - is something usual, so puritan ideas make no sense at all (besides some models are imported). And a bit different model on Death/Black Metal that is usually heard is shown on “K”, the new full length of the Colombian quartet KING. The sonority used is another different point (many bands of their region love Old School formats): the choice was for something aggressive, brutal and sharp, but defined and understandable.
It boosts their aggressiveness and weight, but allowing the listeners to have a deeper idea of what they’re playing. Their difference between many Black/Death Metal acts resides that they’re not in a trench similar to acts from Polish Death/Black Metal School (even with some moments sounding in this way), but on something derived from North American Death Metal School with the use of some careful melodic points (as heard on “K-II”) and some percussive touches inherited from the native culture. If you want a release that brings your nerves to a collapse, this amount of brutality and weight is what you were expecting.
“The Gathering” is the climatic intro that starts the massacre, and what is shown on “I-I”, “K-II”, “The Black Mass or the Lahar”, “Death’s Cold Wind”, “Dying Heart”, “Nine Angels Blazes”, “Una Tormenta”, “K-I” and “I-II” is really something that every extreme Metal fan must hear. But one song is special: “Only Ashes Remain” a version for a song of DEAD CONGREGATION, here in memory of Camilo Arboleda, Jhonny Julio and Blanca R. Urrea. As a third album, “K” shows a band with its personality defined. And KING is really a reliable name from the South American extreme Metal scene.
