Songs Of Flesh & Blood - In The Key Of Light
King Dude
There are some works that, when we hear, the first thing that comes to our minds is "what the fuck is this?", due the lack of a deeper musical comprehension of what the band/musician is all about; this is the case of KING DUDE, a band or an artist (I couldn't find any good information about this matter, sorry) that comes with a new work, called "Songs of Flesh & Blood - In The Key of Light".
I must say that here, we have a combination of Gothic Rock, Pop and something from Blues and Country Music. There are many moments when it reminds me a lot of something from SISTERS OF MERCY, THE MISSION and BILLY IDOL in their best moments, being good in all aspects, with good vocals (that really are doing fine in more Pop moments or in the introspective songs), and some experimentalism is here as well, but don't ask too much. And no, it isn't a Heavy Metal album, indeed.
The sound quality is good, clear and giving a good atmosphere for the music to flow from the speakers; and if you pay attention, you'll hear very good moments on guitars and from synthesizers. But if you're seeking for something more dirty or heavy, I must say that you're looking on the wrong album.
The album has some very good songs, but I must say that the best ones are the ones that are not so introspective and depressive. "Black Butterfly" has some good vocals and an interesting work on guitars, "Rosemary" (that has the same elements, with a good rhythmic session) and "Holy Water" (this one is a Blues/Country orientated song, very good indeed).
The album is good, but I really think that more Pop songs and less slow and introspective ones would be better for this (these) guy(s).
