KEIN is a band based out of Italy, blending Atmospheric Black Metal with Rock. Sliptrick Records didn't have much information about the band available on their webpage, so I am sort of flying blind here. Let's just get to the music to find out what they are all about.

"Like a Bitch" leads off the album, with a dark and heavy opening riff, really bringing the darkness out. They stay on the low E chord pretty much throughout the track however. Some Industrial elements come into play after the second chorus. "Levers" brings a little more energy to the table, opening with a fast riff and the snarly vocals of William Mambelli. I have to admit I don't really care much for his vocal style. "Nailed" follows a similar pattern in terms of the vocals. I don't quite hear the blending of the two styles mentioned above...I hear some elements but it doesn't mix very well IMO.

"Cruel" is the first song that offers a little variety, especially in the drums and cymbal crashes. But the vocals stay about the same, although the riff is a bit different. "Divine Lips" opens with a slower groove, still with those semi-Black Metal vocals. The music just isn't interesting enough to really life the track off the ground however. "Chain" offers a little variety with some positive tones in the opening that eventually give way to more of that darkness. From there however it continues on as the other tracks did.

"Mask" is much more traditional Black Metal, opening with furious drumming and that wall of guitars that is often associated with the genre. But, it slows to a grinding halt and again features the vocals over the instruments. "Diamond" opens with some brief electronica before the big riff hits. Again, the vocals are in about the same range as in other songs, and this takes dynamism off the table. "Human Bones" closes the album. Again, they lay on the low E chord too much and this keeps the music uninteresting IMO.

Overall, the album failed to impress me. It stayed in the same territory the entire time and did not venture from the formula, which was a bit stale, and uninteresting. His vocals I did not care for either...they were too one-dimensional. Each track bled into the next, and the instrumentation too simple. I would skip this if I were you.
